Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with KIDz 4 Him.
If you are seriously thinking about volunteering with us Praise the Lord!
Because of the nature of our ministry, please consider these important points.
We request that unless you are travelling with your parents or a team, volunteers should be 18 years old. If you are travelling for the first time, keep your stay to 2 or 3 weeks.
We would ask that you send us a copy of a pastoral reference, and a copy of your vision for personal ministry and your hopes for working with us. You can send this directly to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it The pastoral reference does not need to be long but it should include an assessment of your Christian walk and your suitability for short term mission experience.

Insurance
Emergency and medical insurance is compulsory. This is essential for all who visit or work with us. Make sure you have enough money to cover any incidental medicine costs. Most domestic insurance policies do not cover international travel so please check to verify your coverage. Zambia is a country of ruggedness and beauty. However, the dangers here are always present, and KIDz 4 Him is not able to guarantee your safety, health or comfort. By volunteering with us you accept that you come fully trusting in God as your provider and protector. We do not have the staff to attend to your personal needs. Therefore, you need to be self-reliant. God has never failed us, and He will not fail any who place their trust in Him
Health/Medical requirements:
No travel vaccines are required to enter Zambia, but if you are travelling via a country where yellow fever cases have been reported, you should check with your travel agent regarding the yellow fever vaccine. Other vaccines that you should check for travel to Africa in general include tetanus, Typhoid, & Hepatitis A.
Malaria prophylaxis is compulsory. Please check with your doctor at least 6 weeks before you plan to travel, and take the medication as directed. Please bring your own mosquito net to sleep under. These are lightweight and easily fit into your luggage.
You will also need to bring a strong insect repellent.
You will need to bring sunscreen and medicines for your own medical needs. We strongly recommend that you bring some charcoal in either tablet or powder form.

Visas
A visa is required for entry into Zambia, and the visa fees have recently increased. Please see table below.
The type of passport you are using and the number of times you wish to enter Zambia determines your fees. If you plan to travel outside of and return to Zambia for any reason, even for day leave to Zimbabwe or Botswana you need a multiple entry visa if you wish to re enter Zambia.
When you have decided which visa suits you, please ensure that you have the correct amount of money in US currency as no change will be given. .
You will need to bring with you;
two recent passport size photos signed on the back of each.
(we have never been asked for these, but the visa application and entry permit process is changing, we find it’s better to be prepared.)
A filled in form 22 (available at the point of entry or on the Zambian immigration website.) They like it in duplicate.
· A cover letter specifying the nature of the intended business (We will send you a copy of the letter)
· Flight itinerary or return air ticket
Please remember that there is a departure tax to be paid in US currency by all non residents of Zambia. The current fee is $US25.00. (If you are travelling via South African Airways this departure tax is pre paid in your tickets.) Remember to have the correct amount as no change is given.
Expenses/currency
KIDz 4 Him is a faith-based ministry. This means that we are totally dependent on the Holy Spirit for our support. We would ask that you are mindful of the expenses related to your visit including your accommodation, and transportation. If you are fundraising for your trip to KIDz 4 Him we would ask that you consider raising the $250.00 per week to cover the expenses incurred.
Your expenses depend on you. There is a local shop in Itezhi Tezhi that supplies the basics, and vegetables are available from the local markets. Our diet is very simple, and you can bring some food with you. You may use our kitchen, but our supply of utensils is limited. Teams are requested to bring their own plates cups, etc.
There are some very good restaurants in Lusaka, but that is a 10 hour round trip.
We recommend that you bring US dollars with you and a credit card. Zambian Kwacha is not accepted outside of Zambia. The ATM's are common and withdrawals are not a problem most of the time. Power outs are common in Zambia so cash is important in an emergency.
Most of the shops do not have the facilities to accept payment for goods by credit card.
A trip to Zambia would not be complete without visiting the Victoria Falls or an animal safari. Zambia has the best of both. A trip to Livingstone where the world's highest registered bungee jumps has to be experienced for those who are brave, or perhaps white water rafting down the Zambezi below the falls. There are open cockpit air flights, and a host of activities designed for backpackers and visitors alike. Trips to Livingstone can be arranged as requested, at your own expense.
The Kafue National park is the oldest national park in Zambia. It is also the largest, and is home to a variety of unique animals. Leopard, cheetah, and lions all call the Kafue National Park home. Itezhi Tezhi is situated on the border of Kafue National Park, so a safari is a must. (Keep in mind that rainy season begins in November, and ceases in March) During this time the Kafue National Park is impassable and that animal viewing is difficult.

What to Pack
Clothing: Men may wear pants/trousers or shorts, and T shirts or button up shirts. Women may wear pants/trousers, and "Capri" pants and skirts or dresses. While the fashion worn by Zambian women is getting more and more like those of western countries, as a Christian organization we request that you keep your dress modest. Bare midriff, and bare shoulders are not acceptable, miniskirts and short shorts are not considered acceptable dress.
For Sabbath services, nationals wear their best clothes, and it is considered disrespectful for visitors to turn up for church in casual clothes. Women are expected to wear dresses or skirts for church and outreach events. Zambians love to wear a brightly colored shitange, and these can be purchased at the local markets. Note: in some of the more remote villages, seeing a woman's legs is considered vulgar. Please remember this is a different culture, ankle length dresses and skirts are most acceptable.
The weather in Zambia is warm to very hot in summer months, but can still get cool in the evening. Wet season usually begins in November and finishes around March/April. In winter, the days are cooler, and the nights can get quite cold. Long sleeved shirts and trousers are great to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Bring a jacket and light breathable clothing. The wearing of camouflage clothing in Zambia is discouraged. Zambians are very sensitive about this so try and avoid the use of this type of clothing. We learned this through experience.
Other things to bring, include bedding Pillow, sheets, blanket or sleeping bags. We would recommend the sleeping bag for ease of travel. Towel, shower shoes, closed in shoes, sandals (rafting or the like), Bible flash light, umbrella. Soap and toothpaste can be purchased from stores in Lusaka, but you are advised to bring your own.
Please cover all piercing other than normal ear piercing for women.
